Question about an abscessed tooth?

I have done a lot of reading about this topic. It seems with an abscessed tooth you have face swelling and drainage either threw the tooth or a pimple looking thing. Well I have been in major pain for a couple of months and the pain is also in my neck but no swelling or drainage. Is it possible the abcess just isnt bad or I dont have an abscess ( I do have a broken tooth where this is all occuring).
