Can a sleeping pill kill you? Help?

Ok so, its summer and ive gotten my schedule off track. And sometimes when I spend the night at my friends, I dont go to bed til like 5 am and my friend goes to bed before 1 so I asked her if she had any sleeping pills. So, my question is, can they kill you? The one they had was equate and I read the back and it said children 12 and over are allowed to take it. Im 13. One night, I didnt take it cause sometimes I get paranoid abd think of the worst, silly me (: lol. So yeah, thanks :)
